Mobilizing Private Investment: You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

Mobilizing Private Investment: You Don’t Have to Do It Alone is an eLearning course I created for USAID while at EnCompass. This course uses storytelling to draw learners in, rich animations to explain complex ideas, and gamification to keep them actively engaged. The course was developed using Articulate Storyline, Vyond, and Adobe Illustrator.

Please note that since this course is no longer hosted on an LMS, your progress will not be saved, and you won’t be able to resume where you left off.

Exploring the Universe of Internet Freedom

EnCompass designed and developed the Exploring the Universe of Internet Freedom e-learning course for USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance. As the lead designer and activity manager, I crafted the design and oversaw the course’s development, ensuring an engaging and impactful learning experience.

Course Overview

In this course, the main character unwinds after a long day at the office by watching an episode of Star Trek. As she drifts off to sleep, she finds herself aboard a USAID starship, embarking on an interstellar mission. As the ship’s captain, her role is to visit various planets and assess the state of internet freedom by engaging with NGOs, government officials, and local citizens.

When she wakes up, she returns to work with a newfound, in-depth understanding of internet freedom. She then delivers a presentation to her colleagues, sharing her insights. For the final challenge, learners must assist in delivering her presentation by answering key questions.

Concepts and Considerations of Decentralization

I designed and developed the Concepts and Considerations of Decentralization e-learning course for USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance. I served as the EnCompass lead designer and developer of this course.

Course Overview

In this course, you’ll follow the journey of our main character as they prepare for an important new task. But before they can take it on, they must first demonstrate their understanding of key decentralization concepts in a conversation with their supervisor.

The story unfolds in a coffee shop, where the main character meets with a former professor for guidance. Through engaging discussions and thought-provoking questions, you’ll help the character refine their knowledge and prepare for the big conversation.

To reinforce learning, each module wraps up with a jazz band in the corner of the café playing a song that highlights the key concepts covered.

Gender 101

I designed and developed the Gender 101 e-learning course for USAID’s GenDev team to help staff understand the guidance of the USAID Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Policy and begin implementing it in their work. This course guided learners through the policy’s vision, principles, and requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of its impact and implementation.

As the lead EnCompass designer and co-developer, I spearheaded the project from kickoff to evaluation—conducting an action mapping exercise, overseeing course development, and assessing its effectiveness post-launch on USAID’s internal LMS and public server.

Course Overview

In this course, learners embark on an engaging journey through diverse landscapes, guided by three USAID Gender Advisors who share valuable stories and insights along the way. As they progress, learners must complete challenges to collect essential items and move forward. The journey culminates in a final test—a bridge they must cross. Each correct answer earns them a step forward, bringing them closer to completing their adventure.

An Immersive Journey Through PEA

Developed by EnCompass LLC, this interactive e-learning course was designed for USAID’s Bureau for Global Health. As the lead instructional designer and activity manager, I collaborated with SMEs, an e-learning programmer, and voice actors to bring this course to life.

Course Overview

Learners step into the role of Jay, who must complete a stretch assignment on Political Economy Analysis (PEA). As he encounters obstacles—like spilled notes and missing information—learners assist him by making critical decisions through branching scenarios. This course challenges learners to apply knowledge in real-world situations, experience the consequences of their choices, and refine their approach through guided feedback.

Learning Experience

  • Scenario-Based Learning: Navigate real-world challenges and decision-making.
  • Branching Pathways: See the impact of choices before learning best practices.
  • Engaging Multimedia: Animated storytelling, voice acting, and interactive elements.
